<hi style=afpcap>The Standard Aircraft Corporation produced their SJ biplane as a direct development of the earlier Sloan and Standard H series. When the US entered World War One the Standard SJ was ordered into quantity production as primary trainer to supplement the Curtiss JN-4. The two aircraft were very similar in appearance, with the SJ being fitted with an additional small auxiliary wheel ahead of the main assembly to help prevent noseover on soft ground and assist students with heavy landings. </hi>
